On January 18, the Northwest chapter of IVI-IPO declined to recommend Will Guzzardi be endorsed by IVI-IPO. Supporters of incumbent Rep. Toni Berrios (who refused to participate in endorsement process) made a motion for a secret ballot. The secret ballot was tied between endorsing Guzzardi and no endorsement. The board of IVI-IPO will vote to accept or overturn the local decision on January 29.
Why is this important?
The full name of IVI-IPO is *Independent* Voters of Illinois - *Independent* Precinct Organization. Berrios is the daughter of Joe Berrios, chairman of the Cook County Democratic Party. His whole career has been aligned with the Democratic Machine and against progressives & independents. Guzzardi is the exact kind of candidate IVI-IPO is supposed to support, building a campaign by activating large numbers of volunteers to diligently contact voters one-on-one.
