Obama: Be a Food Stamp President

President Obama -

Don't allow Congress' cruel and reckless rationing starve millions of Americans. Veto any cuts to SNAP (food stamps).

Thank you.

Why is this important?

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as the food stamp program) historically has been the most responsive federal program after unemployment insurance in assisting families and communities during economic downturns. The recent downturn was no exception.

The recession isn't over for low and middle income families. We haven't created enough living wage jobs. These cuts do almost nothing to buy us out of the deficit. And all the while, we are passing out money to corporations like it's candy on Halloween. Real people with real need have been abandoned by Congress. It's disgusting and wrong.

Since Congress has already voted on massive cuts, we only have one option left on the table: a presidential veto. President Obama has the opportunity to be the moral center we need right now -- a unifying figure who can draw a definite line in the sand over important life and death issues. Someone, who instead of running away when Republicans call him the Food Stamp President, embraces it. Let’s make sure he knows that we do not accept food stamp cuts. Not here. Not ever.
