Raise the minimum wage to $13.00/hr in Spokane, WA

Dear, Mayor Condon
Americans are still suffering from one of the worst recessions in history, yet wages have flatlined. The time has come to raise the minimum wage in our community. Seattle is currently involved in an active protest to raise their minimum wage to $13.00/hr. Why does Eastern Washington lag behind the rest of the state? Why have we so long lived by the Idaho standard of a right to work state? When do we get the right to work and earn a decent living? It is easy to raise the wages of everyone in the state in succinct rebuttal to the raising of the minimum wage law.
Not only will their be less crime, but their will be less families in need of medicaid and food stamps. Our city deserves this basic economic stimulus, perhaps even more than the Seattle area does. Our city is a crime haven. The raising of the minimum wage will set apart the middle class from the criminal perpetrators. Perhaps then, the police will have a target to set their sites on.

Why is this important?

Out of all developed nations, the United States has the most unequal distribution of wealth. Middle class wages have remained stagnant, while the top 1% have seen 95% of the gains.

Raising the minimum wage is one of the best ways to combat income inequality and give Americans a raise.

Reasons for signing

  • Cost of living has gone way up while minimum wage has stayed the same so it's hard to provide for myself and family .
  • Because I'm hopefully moving to Spokane and would like the opportunity to live comfortably.
  • because I am moving to Spokane and I am not sure if I can get by with a low wage which I am definitely going to be starting at the bottom of the pay scale.
