Denver (CO) School Board, At Large
Tay Anderson is a candidate who truly understands the challenges facing the students he seeks to serve as a member of the Denver School Board. He is young black male who has experienced homelessness and all the stressors that cause low education performance. Anderson credits education with changing his trajectory, in part because he found support and community in my local progressive movement. He wants to make sure other youth can find the same support and passion in their lives.
Tay has been an active volunteer in the Democratic party, his union, and has organized on issues key issues including gun violence and school-to-prison pipeline. He currently works as the restorative justice coordinator at a local high school, and is working on these issues daily.
Anderson is running for Denver’s school board because too often decisions are made about the education of young black men, without young black men at the decision making table. There is too much focus on outcomes instead of root causes. There is too much focus on grades and standardized tests, instead of mental health and sense of community. He is running because young progressives need a seat at the decision table. Tay Anderson can and will be the change Denver School Board needs to better serve the needs of all the communities, families, and students they are elected to represent.
