James is passionate about bringing change to the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO). He wants to put an end to the corruption that has plagued the office for years, eliminate wasteful spending, give the deputies and staff the support they need to keep Cobb County safe, and serve all persons within Cobb County impartially within the confines of our laws. With his extensive background and knowledge of the law, he will work with staff and other law enforcement agencies to rebuild trust between the Sheriff’s office and the community.

James was born and raised in South Georgia, and attended Valdosta State University. He majored in Criminal Justice, and went on to obtain a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a second Master’s Degree in Public Administration from VSU as well. He moved to Cobb County in 2001 and began working for the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office. He and his wife, Kristi, reside in east Cobb. James and Kristi have four boys that they are raising together. Both brought two boys to their marriage. Kristi is a Pediatric RN and hospital epidemiologist at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. They are members of First Presbyterian Church of Marietta. James’ youngest child has special needs, and both parents are active in the special needs community.

After seeing the incumbent sheriff investigate himself in relation to all 48 deaths in the local jail, watching him interfere with the First Amendment rights of others, and watching numerous deputies out on bond for felonies be given cushy offices with made up jobs, James knew it was beyond time for change. He wants to make Cobb County a place that is welcoming to all people. The Sheriff should serve as a protector of the community, not as an enemy to those that he has sworn to protect.

James’ background solidly speaks for itself. He has a history of standing up to bullies. He feels that this election is simply a continuation of what he has been doing his whole life. As Sheriff, James plans to rid our county of the 287(g) program that rips families apart and terrorizes communities by allowing ICE to have a partnership with the local authorities. He also plans to not arrest or enforce misdemeanor marijuana possession in Cobb County. In his experience, that is the number one reason minorities get caught up into the endless trap of the criminal justice system. James’ platform is the only one to address either problem in Cobb County right now, which is what makes him the most progressive candidate for Sheriff.
